The Endless Fall, the Forgotten Flight

The Endless Fall, the Forgotten Flight

Liam:

Liam:

Chloe:

Chloe:

Setting: A dimly lit bar, late at night. Two friends, CHLOE and LIAM, sit across from each other, nursing their drinks. The atmosphere is intimate and slightly melancholic.

Chloe: (swirling her drink) I had that dream again last night. The one where I’m falling.

Liam: The endless fall? That’s a classic.

Chloe: It feels so real, though. The wind rushing past, the ground getting closer and closer. I wake up with my heart pounding every time.

Liam: What do you think it means?

Chloe: Loss of control, maybe? Feeling overwhelmed? My therapist says it could be related to work stress.

Liam: Could be. I’ve been getting the one with the exam I’m unprepared for again lately. Except I haven’t been a student in years.

Chloe: The anxiety dream. We all get those.

Liam: I even dreamt I was back in high school, sweating over a math test I didn’t study for.

Chloe: (chuckles) Math was never your strong suit.

Liam: Tell me about it. But it’s the feeling of helplessness that gets me. The ticking clock, the blank page, the sheer panic.

Chloe: It’s funny, isn’t it? How our brains torture us with these scenarios even when we’re awake?

Liam: Funny in a twisted way. Do you ever have recurring dreams that aren’t scary?

Chloe: I used to have this one where I could fly. Soaring above the clouds, feeling free. I haven’t had it in years, though.

Liam: I used to dream about exploring abandoned buildings. Discovering hidden rooms, secret passageways. I always woke up feeling…curious.

Chloe: Maybe we should start a dream journal. Track these things, see if we can find any patterns.

Liam: Not a bad idea. We could compare notes, be each other’s dream analysts.

Chloe: We’d probably need a lot more booze for that.

Liam: (raises his glass) To nightmares, and the stories they tell.

Chloe: (clinking her glass against his) May they never cease to fascinate us.

Setting: A messy apartment living room. Two roommates, MIN-SEO and JI-WOO, are sprawled on the floor, surrounded by empty pizza boxes and video game controllers.

Ji-Woo:

Min-Seo: (lying face down on the floor with her eyes closed) Ugh… the floor tastes… salty…

Ji-Woo: (giggling) It’s probably pizza-flavored. You fell asleep face-first last night.

Min-Seo: (lifts her head and squints) Really? No wonder… I dreamt I was lying on the beach.

Ji-Woo: It wasn’t saltwater, it was pepperoni grease.

Min-Seo: (pokes the floor with her finger and tastes it) Ew, you’re right. I thought the sand was a bit hard.

Ji-Woo: (bursts out laughing) You’re hilarious. Who told you to drink so much?

Min-Seo: Ah, whatever. I was so frustrated with that game yesterday.

Ji-Woo: Yeah, yeah. Next time, wash your face before you pass out drunk. Okay?

Min-Seo: Okay, okay. (puts her face back on the floor) But… it’s not that bad, actually.

Ji-Woo: (exasperated) Hey!

SCENE START

INT. NEIGHBORS’ LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

The room is dark, illuminated only by the faint glow of a television screen. ANNA (30s), dressed in dark clothes, creeps through the room, eyes darting nervously. She reaches the TV and presses the power button, plunging the room into darkness.

Suddenly, a door creaks open. ANNA spins around, eyes wide.

A WOMAN (50s) stands in the doorway, rubbing sleep from her eyes.

WOMAN

(Startled)

Who are you? What are you doing in my house?

ANNA

(Hushed, urgent)

Shhh! Keep your voice down! They’ll hear you.

WOMAN

(Confused)

Who will hear me? What are you talking about?

Anna strides towards the woman, getting in her face.

ANNA

Don’t play dumb with me! I know you’re working with them. I see the way you watch me, the way you report back.

WOMAN

(Backing away)

Report back? To who? You’re scaring me.

ANNA

(Gripping the woman’s arm)

The people watching me! The ones listening to every word I say! You tell them everything, don’t you?

WOMAN

(Trying to break free)

You’re hurting me! Get out of my house!

ANNA

(Ignoring her)

I saw the van. The one parked across the street for weeks. They’re always there, with their cameras and their microphones. I saw you talking to them.

WOMAN

(Frustrated)

That was the cable guy! Our internet was down. You need help. You need to see a doctor.

ANNA

(Shaking her head)

No doctors. They’re in on it too. Everyone is. Except me. I’m the only one who sees what’s really going on.

The woman manages to pull away from Anna and reaches for a lamp, switching it on. The sudden light makes Anna flinch.

WOMAN

(Pointing to the door)

Get out! Before I call the police!

Anna looks around the room, her paranoia evident in her eyes.

ANNA

(Whispering)

They’re everywhere. I can’t escape them.

She backs away slowly, never taking her eyes off the woman.

ANNA

(To herself)

But they won’t silence me. I know the truth.

Anna turns and rushes out of the room, leaving the woman standing alone, shaken and confused.

INT. ANNA’S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Anna bursts through her own front door, locking it behind her. She leans against the door, breathing heavily. She scans her apartment, searching for any sign of intrusion.

Her eyes land on her laptop, sitting innocently on the coffee table.

ANNA

(Muttering)

They can watch me through that. I know they can.

She grabs the laptop and throws it on the floor, stomping on it repeatedly until it’s nothing but a mangled mess of plastic and wires.

Anna collapses onto the couch, burying her face in her hands. Tears stream down her cheeks.

ANNA

(Sobbing)

I just want it to stop. I just want to be left alone.

FADE OUT.
